completely mesmerizing.
usually the obvious slips far below a solar eclipse,
slinks behind a golden anniversary; it sits low on the list
dressed in the ordinary, forgetting to accessorize. Not
a siren or a muse, but more of a gorgeous epiphany, this
innocent affair with the simple things, which is where
the rather exceptional Mario salvucci finds himself:
exuberantly soaked in a fascination with shadow and
light. his series of table, floor and pendant lamps is
called progetto Lanterne—“light project” as the wistful,
non-romance linguist would gather—and, when taken
in with its lush contrasts and silhouettes, sparks fly
and the collection melts into the definitive modern
love. from his studio in umbria, salvucci bends and
shapes every light by hand; each created from one
piece of laser-cut metal and formed without soldering.
stunning, how the light plays on the walls, strobes on
the ceiling, casting nature-inspired imprints that should
be delicate like flowers, but smolder atmospheric like
an industrialized chiaroscuro. salvucci, who spent
two decades in illustrious bold-faced type for his
much adored collection of jewelry created this smaller,
exclusive collection immortalizing the most beautiful
and familiar of forms into fantasy. here, the teasel
pendants float slightly away from light and into the
sculpture of shadows. surfaces and corners never to
