Life as a principal with The Royal Ballet brings new challenges each day. I attend class six days a week at 10.30am, even
before we start rehearsing for the current production. And if I have a show in the evening, I might not get home until 11pm. Still,
even though every day is long, I wouldn’t change it for the world. I love the stimulation that a new role, a new work, a brilliant
teacher and music bring. It’s been my passion all my life, and I hope it never dies.
Truly, I had a most unreal start to my career and such amazing opportunities. Despite the nerves and getting butterflies in my
stomach (even after all these years), I am so grateful for the opportunity to offer something of myself to the audience through
the roles that I dance. I feel responsible for giving them a very special experience—they’ve come to see something wonderful
and they have expectations. If I can fulfill them by bringing emotion to the role, as well as dancing my best, I am happy. The
audience’s reaction means so much to me—that they can take a wonderful memory home with them n The Royal Opera
