Informed by the curvature and classical beauty of
French style, custom-designed furniture by Leibowitz
and McLachlan fills the house. Still, it’s the subtle and
unassuming coffee table that becomes the focal
point in the pale light of the living room. Forged
from a timber frame wrapped in zinc, its weight
lending a cozy, soft touch and like an echo bringing
together the whispers of aged silver, gessoed white
and crystalline glass.
Impossible to place the retreat into the comfort of
just one design category: is it French? Not entirely.
Contemporary? There are too many antiques.
Gustavian? A little, its uniqueness and grace abound
in its singularity. For this dynamic, Leibowitz credits her
clients. “Their amazing openness to all things ‘new’
and ‘different’ allowed our creativity to blossom,
and as a result, it became the perfect blend” n
