Celebrity designers and chefs-du-jour
have made the Meat Packing District a fishbowl
for the newly rich and famous who long to see
their faces on Page Six. It’s not at all uncommon
to see NYC’s latest crop of Holly Golightlys
tripping, post-fete, past the predawn bustle of
the still-operating wholesale butchers who give
the area its namesake.
But this petite partition along the Hudson
River has long offered vistas and tableaus found
nowhere else in Manhattan. Situated between
the West Village and Chelsea, a closer look at this
district boasts a quiet piazza covered in century-
old Belgian block underfoot and the massive iron
ribbon of a winding elevated railway (soon to
