Beauty. Pleasure. Savoring an ephemeral moment.
Much like the awaited warmer wind, whose welcome
stirrings bring the smell of freshness that is sweet, with just
a hint of acid. This is true luxury.
Our latest edition of interiors, likewise, emits a bright,
new buzzing from every leaf. To wit, we stash stuffy old
desk accoutrements in the bottom drawer and replace
them with the most fashionable finery for dashing off
missives or penned secrets. This is the Desk Set of the
21st century.
We forge confidently ahead and into the slick yet
soothing LA home of rising star designer Janna Levenstein,
where effortless cool meets inspired chill. The effect:
enlightened, refractive, meditative. On the other end
of the style compendium is Italian artist Silvia Morera.
Her 19th century apartment in Rome is a study in lipstick,
elegance with a cheeky wallop. White walls lined with her
own artwork prove the ideal foil for voluptuous furnishings.
Fancy a wicked velour daybed in fuchsia or a brocade
armchair in pink? Bold is also no stranger to designer Sam
Cardella, only this time around, a more masculine and
daring juxtaposition that pairs polished moderne with
stunning African sculptures and contemporary art for a
streamlined Chicago high-rise apartment.
We continue to herald the new by visiting the
recently renovated Bastide, a Los Angeles bastion of
contemporary French cuisine re-envisioned by Andrée
Putman; by previewing the elaborately staged, painterly
images of photographer Gregory Crewdson; and by
touring the bustling streets of Istanbul, a metropolis
perched at a fascinating continental divide.
Cosmopolitan travelers we are and our journeys to
here and abroad prove that globalism spells sameness
for the prosaic alone. Under our watchful eye, it morphs
into a fantastic, intricate vision far from the expected.
The meeting of East and West, Old World and New in
