“THE PRIVATE SPACES ARE MORE ABOUT CREATING
intimate environments,” says Kallos, an intimacy achieved by
bathing them in saturated colors that contrast with the crisp
white public rooms. The master suite, for instance, is a rich gray
above the marble wainscoting. Overscaled 1960s Venini sconces
above custom marble-topped bedside tables and two Mandarin
chairs from Christian Liaigre exude a highly personal glamor. A
guest bedroom matches the wall and ceiling paint to its cerulean-blue drapes.
In KallosTurin’s hands, two centuries are held in perfect
balance within these landmark walls. Beamed into the residence
today, the original architects might not get it completely. But
preserving enough of their original intent ensures they would still
feel at home.
