Joyce bought the space in 2009 and
spent about six months transforming it. One
third of the building now houses his classic
modern offices, the perfect backdrop for
the firm’s varied design projects. The other
two thirds make up his loft-like warehouse,
used for storing and distributing his fabrics.
Launched in spring 2011, Kerry Joyce
Textiles is the result of years of research. “I
love fabrics, and I love working with mills
to develop things I’ve always wanted but
couldn’t find,” says Joyce. “I love fabrics
that have a quiet sense of history but that
are still fresh, not stodgy. I want my fabrics
to feel like something vintage that you
were lucky to find at the Paris flea market in
pristine condition. We go to great lengths
with the artwork and silkscreen processes
to develop subtle textures and complex
colors that seem slightly mottled and antiqued without being corny.”
