The house took a year and a half to build, and is planned as two L-shaped pavilions, set at the back of the lot, as far away as possible from the busy road. once across the ntry bridge, where a large reflecting pond cools the house
in the tropical heat, the river view is revealed through big glass
windows. From the kitchen, a long horizontal window overlooks
the entry and study. "i also love the way Kuan made the house
both functional and communicative," adds Mary Jane. "even
the bedroom has some visual communication with the living
room." she is an enthusiastic cook, and so Cheong designed two
kitchens: leading from the dining area is a modern Western-style
space with sleek black counter tops and stainless-steel appliances,
and a traditional Balinese paon with its clay mud oven, built by
their son Max edleson.
