echo the modular form, all based on a geometric grid and crafted
from local spruce by artisans in the area. the sofa and table are equal
in depth so they can be connected into a single, longer bench, while
stacking the coffee table and desk creates a shelving element also of
the same height, so that "if you have them in a row, you can change
the entire layout of the room," truffer explains. A fireplace suspended
from the living area ceiling contributes to the airiness and unifies the
rooms: it can be turned 360 degrees to face any of the open areas.
Violet upholstered Knoll chairs add a chime of color and reflect the
purple hues of sunsets that pour through the two picture windows in
the living space.
Upstairs, truffer left the original checkerboard floor intact, and continued
the feeling of expansiveness by opening up the rooms and introducing
sliding doors that allow the owners to separate the master bedroom
from the guest room when necessary, or leave the entire space open.
A new bathroom echoes the modular design of the kitchen below,
unifying upstairs and down, and creating a harmony of simplicity that
allows the house itself to be its own ornament. For the owners, the chalet
has become the perfect retreat: once intended to be a vacation home,
it is now where they live practically full-time, cherishing what has
become their dream home n Daniel Truffer, + 41 (0) 61 295 90 36
