Couturier continued his bold use of color in other innovative ways
throughout the apartment. “Color gives personality to spaces,” he says.
“We used brilliant colors behind the beds as headboards, and it gives
a different feeling to each of the rooms.” the beds stand against walls
painted varying shades of bright turquoise, while, in the downstairs guest
quarters, a recessed niche between the living area and kitchen was
painted a vibrant orange to help separate the open room. Couturier
placed a large-scale Michael eastman photograph against the
tangerine backdrop. A Verner panton steel-wire dining set pops with
orange-hued upholstered seats, and tufted-leather Kaare Klint chairs
from the 1930s complement a Cassina sectional sofa.
