Þerhaps more than any other artist
working in silver today‚ suzuki is identified with a single form‚ the
vase. But far from monotonous‚ in his hands these take on an
almost infinite variety. during his time in england he has developed
four series of vases‚ each associated with one of the four ancient
elements: earth‚ Air‚ Fire and Water. each has its own character:
the Aqua-poesy (Water) vases are embossed with deeply ridged
patterns suggesting the animated surface of a river or the sea‚
and the Miyabi-Fire vases with leaping flamiform patterns. the
earth-reki vases have quite different‚ agitated surfaces that recall
the rough symmetry of ploughed soil‚ and the Ayawind (Air) series
are smooth‚ with a subtly undulating profile.
