BACK YARDLUXE
IF THERE IS ONE THING TO ACHIEVE THIS SUMMER, please let it be the exile of the term
“staycation.” The backyard, patio, fire escape—these are idyllic, majestic places that
need not be rebranded. While sunlight and soft temperatures remain momentarily free
from marketing exploits, the ritual of gathering outside to savor a kebab, tell a ghost story
or bask in wrinkled grass stains is among our last simple pleasures. Surrounded by a few
extraordinary comforts, the season of fresh air and color unwinds easily, casually, with bossa
nova breeziness. A clam bake on the patio, midnight serenade in the hammock or a safari
on the terrace—it’s a short trip outside n Arianne Nardo
