A bold choice, the gentlemen chose an
"upside down" configuration
for the floor plan‚ putting the main living spaces and the
master bedroom suite on the second floor. “We wanted to
take the best advantage of the views‚” explains sukonick.
“We created separate wings that radiate from the living
areas so the house would easily provide privacy for everyone
when we had overnight guests.”
With designer Barbara Waltman‚ the pair brought in
a carefully curated selection of furnishings that sapera
considers transitional with strong historical references. “We
wanted to think that one hundred years from now someone
could walk in and it wouldn’t feel dated‚” he explains.
sukonick adds‚ “We sourced furniture in four different cities
and two different countries to achieve this.”

the quality of the light on the island is a continual source of
pleasure for the couple and was one of the inspirations for
the calming environment they created. “the house is like a
light box‚” sukonick says. “the dark lines we added with the
furnishings serve to connect the powdery pale spaces.”
