Inside, a tango of
form and movement—created by
the mélange of carefully chosen mid-century touches, furniture of their own
design and works by local artists—offers
a productive, tactile tension. One of
the most compelling pieces, artist Paulo
Laenders striking vertical sculpture, is
poised pensively upon the exaggerated
horizontal, polished cement stairs
flanked by smooth travertine marble. In
the living area, figurative sculptures by
Rogério Mendonça and a ceramic work
by Junia Lobo rest on marble-topped
Inês Martinho Moon tables. Pierre
Paulin Globe chairs sheathed in red,
join a sofa, sideboard and rustic wood
table designed by the architects. The
bedroom is a meditation on sanctuary
with floor-to-ceiling glass doors and a
low-slung cloud-white bed suspended
above endless water, islands and sky.
