if
harmony had a home, it might very well be this one—nestled
into the warm surrounds of a pale white Kenyan beach and
inspired by playful shadows cast by the beckoning limbs of
gentle trees. Born of the daydreams of Italian interior and
jewelry designer Marzia Chierichetti, the house is a cool study
in simplicity and stillness.
Designed to mesh almost indistinguishably with its
surroundings, a soft palette of camel and mocha browns, ash
grays, and clean, powdery shades of white fill the curvaceous
open spaces of Chierichetti’s retreat. The fine grain of pale
woods and gently rounded forms are repeated throughout,
mimicking the shape of the architecture. Guided by her
sweeping vision, Chierichetti molded the skeleton of her house
with bricks and chicken wire and then solidified it in concrete.
Like the furniture—also of her own design and built by local
craftspeople of recycled materials and mango wood—the
house bespeaks the philosophy behind all of Chierichetti’s
remarkable designs: from nothing comes abundance.
