“TOGETHER WITH LIGHT, A HEALTHY DOSE OF COLOR
is the best instrument to enliven old bones,” Doriana says,
explaining her unconventional choice to use Chinese
lacquer red for the internal staircase and the mammoth
bathtub in the master bathroom. She designed most of the
furnishings, custom-made by local carpenters. And period
carpets from Morocco, lanterns from Bali, cotton pillows
from Egypt and silk spreads and drapes from Thailand
happily coexist with contemporary design classics: Panton
chairs and Noguchi lamps. “I love to mix and match
objects, in spite of their different origins,” Doriana proudly
declares. Ample natural light comes in from every opening
and drenches the house in a warm Mediterranean
glow, whose intensity changes according to the times of
the day.
“The sea actually becomes part of the residence
because of the wonderful panoramas,” the owners muse.
And even as crashing waves vanish into the night, the
ancestral beauty of the island can be seen in the warm
glow cast by swaying lanterns hanging throughout the
home and garden—indeed, paradise here is never lost
