“I wanted to give this apartment its old splendor back”
Using beats both primal and pioneering, Özdemir
made her remix. She maintained the integrity of the
ceiling’s 19th century stuccowork but paired it with the
modern, natural aesthetic of Autoban’s birch plywood
Magnolia lamp. Newly added round windows above
the doors manage to look as if they have always been
there, while old wooden floors boast a new glossy
black finish. Walls she might have simply stripped
and re-papered wear their patina with honor next to
complementary shades of grey and green that frame
the custom Noguchi-style sofa created to fit between
her dramatic living room windows.
Most of the contemporary furnishings are from
Autoban, selected because their similar, shiny metallic
tones connect each area of her open floor plan.
Their signature brass Pumpkin stool, inspired by the
Ottoman kavuk (hat), is an excellent contrast for the
muted tones that envelop her vintage sofa. The leggy
