And that includes the design of the interior.
Bowles’ original concept for his restaurant was
called Primary, and it was going to be decked out
in red, yellow and blue. But as graham elliot took
shape, Bowles knew the design had to be simpler
than that. So the space, located in Chicago’s River
North Gallery District, is the color of cappuccino—
browns and tans dominate the leather stools, the
bar tops, the rich wood tables. The point is to be a
blank canvas for the lighting system, where every
single bulb is colored. Each season the light bulbs
will change (green in the spring, orange in the
fall, etc.). And the restaurant’s main decorative
element—seasonal ingredients reflected in mirrors
